The office of infection prevention and control
  about the department :

 

The office of infection prevention and control works on minimizing and preventing the spread of infectious diseases in the hospital, thus protecting the patients, visitors, and the hospital staff since the hospital environment – with its complicated surgeries, elderly patients, and patients with low immunity, and other factors – is a suitable environment for the transmission of bacteria and viruses. The office is composed of the director (infectious diseases specialist), director assistant & two infection control practitioners, and a secretary.

  Department Services :  

The infection prevention and control office performs many important duties: the following are among these duties:

 

           Establishing policies and procedures to prevent and control infections in the hospital.

           Surveillance and monitoring of infections in the hospital and issuing a quarterly and annually reports.

           Producing the cumulative bacterial susceptibility data report (also known as the antibiogram)

           Monitoring and management of sharp injuries.

           Participating in the World hand Hygiene Day on 5 May each year and organizing hand hygiene workshops and raising awareness campaigns.

           Monitoring of communicable diseases and reporting them to the Ministry of Health

           Providing and administering vaccines (hepatitis B virus, tetanus, influenza) to healthcare workers and medical and other paramedical students.

           Providing training in infection prevention and control to the hospital staff.

           Making rounds in all departments and areas in the hospital to ensure that proper practices in infection prevention and control are applied.

           Participating in all activities that are related to quality and patient safety.

           Designing posters and leaflets that are related to infection prevention and control.

           Participating in voluntary days that are organized by the hospital to spread health knowledge and awareness.

           Organizing campaigns for influenza vaccination during the seasons of fall and winter.

           Conducting antibiotic stewardship program in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy.

           Doing scientific research in the field of infection prevention and control.
